Expert questions Thiago Motta’s interpretation of game situations

Massimo Brambati was vocal in his criticism of Juventus’ new coach Thiago Motta and drew unfavorable comparisons with former coach Max Allegri. Motta, who took charge at the start of this season after leading Bologna to a Champions League place, has had a decent start and his team have suffered just one defeat so far. Despite these promising results, Brambati is skeptical of Motta’s tactical acumen and in-game decision-making, especially after Juventus’ recent defeat to Stuttgart in the Champions League.

Brambati argues that Motta’s game management and ability to adapt during games are inadequate compared to Allegri, who he sees as a more flexible and reactive coach. Looking back on the performance against Stuttgart, he pointed out that the substitutions did not have the desired effect and the team appeared disjointed and weaker. He extended his criticism to previous decisions, such as the handling of a situation against Lazio, where Juventus had the numerical advantage but Motta’s substitutions were questionable.

As quoted by Tuttomercatoweb, Brambati explained: “I hear someone talking about absences, but when Allegri had them, no one said that. “I haven’t seen the good game yet. And he doesn’t know how to read the games like Allegri does. At Lazio they stick with the extra man and don’t use Weah and Gatti. Sometimes being a Taliban is not good in certain situations, you have to think flexibly.”

These comments highlight concerns about Motta’s rigid approach and reluctance to adjust his tactics when necessary. Brambati’s use of “Taliban” metaphorically suggests that the coach’s adherence to a particular style or system can limit his team’s ability to adapt at crucial moments.

For Motta, the criticism represents a challenge that goes beyond simply collecting points. He must demonstrate growth in his strategic decision-making in order to respond effectively to his critics. Juventus is still well placed in Serie A and remains competitive in the Champions League, but Motta’s ability to learn from past mistakes and react to game situations could be crucial to whether the club can achieve its goals this season.
