Grey’s Anatomy Star Jack Merrill has told the public about his harrowing experience with a notorious US serial killer, saying: “If I had fought him I would be dead.”

John Wayne Gacy, who was active near Chicago, Illinois between 1972 and 1978, was found guilty and convicted of sexually abusing, torturing and murdering 33 young men and boys.

He was later sentenced to death for his crimes and executed by lethal injection in 1994.

Decades after his ordeal, law and order The 65-year-old star Merrill has now decided to reveal that he was attacked by Gacy at the age of 19 after accepting a ride in his car one evening.

Merrill shared the report with PEOPLE, explaining that he was walking home after swimming when a car pulled up next to him and picked him up.

The driver was Gacy, who was often referred to as the “killer clown” due to his work as a clown before his discovery.

He then remembered how Gacy had instructed him to lock the car door because it was “dangerous” outside and asked him if he had ever taken “poppers” before hitting him with a liquid that had been squirted on a washcloth was knocked unconscious.

Merrill then went on to explain that he found himself handcuffed outside Gacy’s house before the serial killer led him inside, tied him up and began sexually assaulting the actor.

“I knew if I fought him I didn’t have much of a chance. I never freaked out or screamed,” Merrill explained.

“In a way I felt sorry for him too, like he didn’t necessarily want to do what he was doing but he couldn’t stop. We had been there for hours.”

“I finally realized he was tired. Suddenly he said, ‘I’m taking you home’.”

Merrill then added that Gacy dropped him off on the street and gave him his number before he drove off. The now-actor decided against going to the police (he didn’t know at the time that Gacy was a serial killer) and made a pact with himself to “get over it.”

The actor then went on to explain that due to his difficult home circumstances and difficult relationship with his parents, he decided not to open up to his parents but only confide in his sister.

Explaining why he decided to speak out about his experiences, Merrill revealed that he wrote a one-man show called The rescue to tell his story.

He also revealed that he was previously ashamed of what happened after bringing up the idea of ​​telling his story to a Hollywood film executive.

“He said, ‘This is how you want to be remembered?'” Merrill recalled. “It stopped me at the time… but then I realized it was my story. It may be ugly, but it’s mine.”
