Agenda for Ted Becker’s Celebration of Life released

The agenda for the celebration of life of former Lewes Mayor Ted Becker has been released.

The event begins promptly on Saturday, October 26th at 11 a.m. at Canalfront Park. Becker led the campaign to create the park and preserve Lewes’ waterfront.

Former Lewes Mayor Jim Ford will give a welcoming speech. Elected leaders will speak about Becker’s many years of service in Lewes and Delaware.

The city and the Greater Lewes Foundation are planning the service together in coordination with Becker’s partner Joe Stewart. They are urging people to arrive early and bring lawn chairs and blankets as seating under the tent will be limited.

Becker, 75, died on October 6th. He was first elected to the city council in 2004. In June 2011, he was named deputy mayor and treasurer under then-Mayor Jim Ford.

Becker was elected mayor in May 2014 after Ford did not seek re-election.

Becker had just begun his term as vice president of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce.

He also served on the board of the Greater Lewes Foundation and was a commissioner on the Delaware River & Bay Authority and other committees and groups throughout Delaware.
