Indiana’s three gubernatorial candidates — Republican Mike Braun, Democrat Jennifer McCormick and Libertarian Donald Rainwater — met Thursday for their final debate of the election cycle and outlined their different visions for the state’s future.

The candidates revisited familiar issues, including property taxes, cannabis legalization and abortion. However, they also addressed new issues such as unions, government job cuts, and gun regulations.

On the subject of gun laws, McCormick criticized Braun’s Vice President Micah Beckwith as being too extreme for Indiana, citing his stance on untraceable, unregistered firearms. “It’s just scary,” McCormick said.

Braun countered by defending his position on gun regulations and emphasizing his support for strengthening Indiana’s red flag law, which allows law enforcement to temporarily strip firearms from people deemed dangerous.

Rainwater distinguished himself by opposing red flag laws and warning against government overreach. “We are so close to our government that they tell us they have to take our guns,” he said.

Election day is November 5th.
