Here’s why Secret Level will have a separate release on Prime Video [Exclusive]

For everyone who can’t wait for the premiere of the upcoming animated anthology series secret level, You can expect to dive into the first episodes starting December 10, 2024, but there’s a catch: the 15 episodes will be released in two separate releases on Prime Video, and there’s a very good reason for that. During an interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at New York Comic Con, Tim Miller And Dave Wilson revealed the reasons behind the staggered release strategy, which they believe will build anticipation and create more opportunities for each episode to shine.

“We fall, I want to say half, but it’s not exactly half. It’s December 10th and 17thsaid Wilson, explaining that the episodes will be split into two different sections. Miller added that the pair were keen to split them into specific locations rather than just randomly selecting them:

“15 is not divisible by two. It’s two drops. The main reason is that I like the idea of the show building a bit of momentum for a few reasons. Hopefully there will be word of mouth and people can come back. But also – I think you told me – it has become established as best practice.”

An important factor in the decision was the unusualness of Secret levels Anthology format that adapts various games, from the bizarre Caving to the intensive Warhammer. “It’s really hard to say Caving next to Warhammer and that people enjoy both equally,” Miller emphasized, citing the challenge of releasing episodes with such different tones side by side. Wilson also explained that one of the releases was aimed more at an adult audience than its counterpart: “They are lightly curated based on the type of adult audience versus less.”

The decision to delay the release also offers a less complex plan for promotion. Wilson explained that with 15 different publishers and developers involved, it was important to give each game and each episode its place in the spotlight. “That’s a lot of megaphones to create a cacophony in one weekend, right? So our goal was always, ‘Can we give people a little bit more of a runway so we can promote the show and get the word out?’ The plan was always to postpone it somehow.”

Miller agreed, emphasizing that a time-limited release allows the team to better coordinate marketing efforts across platforms like Twitch and social media. “You want Give everyone their moment to shine Instead of just the big tentpole IPs that suck in all the air in the room.”

The 15 episodes of Secret level are spread across two drops, with half arriving on December 10th, 2024 and the rest on December 17th. Stay tuned to Collider for more coverage from New York Comic Con.
