Last month, local media outlet IT Home reported that Tesla’s megafactory in Shanghai has already been built 60% completereached halftime. Tesla China official began construction of the Shanghai Megafactory in May 02/23/2024. According to recent reports, Tesla China’s Megafactory will be completed less than a year after production began – further demonstrating the company’s remarkable speed.

Tesla’s megafactory complex covers an area of ​​approximately 49.4 hectares. It is located in the Lingang area, near Giga Shanghai. Tesla estimates that the Shanghai megafactory will have an annual capacity of 10,000 Megapack batteries, or about 40 GWh of energy storage.

In its most recent earnings release, Tesla estimated that its Shanghai Megafactory will start at a production rate of 20 GWh. Tesla’s energy business is likely to see a significant boost once its megafactory in China begins deliveries.

In its third quarter 2024 update letter, Tesla reported a record third quarter gross margin of 30.5% for its energy division. The company said its megafactory in Lathrop produces 200 megapacks per week.
