Here’s a recent soccer story from The AP:

NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — Chris Wood scored his fifth goal of the season Monday as Nottingham Forest beat Crystal Palace 1-0 and moved into the top half of the English Premier League.

The New Zealander was always dangerous and came close before scoring the only goal in the 19th minute of the second period.

His right-footed shot from outside the box sneaked into the post and goalkeeper Dean Henderson will be annoyed that he didn’t get the heavier hand to turn the ball into a corner.

The goal capped a strong performance from Wood, but Forest also had goalkeeper Matz Sels to thank for making two excellent saves, first from a free-kick from Eberechi Eze on the hour mark and then from a free-kick from Jeffrey Schlupp with nine minutes remaining.

“We needed a home win and luckily we got it,” Wood said. “We did the consistent things we’ve always done. We showed tonight that we have a full squad that we can keep up with. It’s vital but we have to keep going.”

The result ended Forest’s run of seven games without a win at the City Ground.

Palace remained third from bottom and had no wins from eight games.
