Detroit names new interim police chief

DETROIT — Detroit will officially name its interim police chief on Friday after James White accepted a new position.

Mayor Mike Duggan will make the announcement on Friday, October 25, 2024 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

White will leave the Detroit Police Department in November to become the new CEO of the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network.

The Board of Police Commissioners will conduct a nationwide search for his permanent successor.

In the meantime, Deputy Mayor Todd Bettison is expected to serve as interim chief.
