Commercial building permits for Pflugerville hit a record high in fiscal year 2024

Commercial building permits for Pflugerville hit a record high in fiscal year 2024

According to the Department of Planning and Development Services, the city of Pflugerville saw its highest number of commercial building permits in recent memory during the past fiscal year. The trend was reported alongside an update on major development projects at the start of the new fiscal year for the city.

The essentials

Building official Robert Polanco presented a summary of Pflugerville’s permitting and development projects at an Oct. 22 City Council meeting. The record number of commercial permits and a surge in site development applications reflect the city’s workforce development efforts, Mayor Victor Gonzales said.

Using the numbers

In the 2023-24 fiscal year, 480 commercial building permits were issued in Pflugerville, Polanco said. The number has increased by four since the 2022-23 fiscal year and represents 447 more permits than in the 2015-16 fiscal year, including the earliest year.

In addition, there were 132 applications for site development in the last financial year. That number is up from 103 in fiscal year 2022-23 and has increased every year since fiscal year 2019-20.

Also notable

Major development projects in Pflugerville in the last year include the Downtown East public utility district, the opening of a third HEB next month, Skybox Development and the Pepsi distribution facility.

An expansion of Baylor Scott & White also began last fiscal year and is ongoing.

What else?

While commercial development activity increased across the board in Pflugerville last year, there was some decline in residential development. There were 337 residential building permits issued, compared to 402 last year. However, there were 70 subdivision applications in the 2023-24 fiscal year, up from 50 applications in the previous fiscal year.
