Newport police arrest two people on gun and drug charges

NEWPORT, Rhode Island (WLNE) – Newport Police arrested two people on illegal firearms and drug charges Thursday.

Tyquan Mitchell, 24, and Gerald McNeill, 62, both of Newport, were arrested following an investigation sparked by multiple neighborhood complaints of drug use at a Broadway apartment.

Arrest warrants were obtained for the apartment and a residence in Bayside Village.

Investigators found crack cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia at the Broadway residence, as well as crack cocaine and an illegal firearm with an illegal magazine and at the Bayside Village residence.

Mitchell is charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
and possession of a high-capacity feeder.

He was arraigned in Second Department District Court and held on $40,000 bail.

McNeill was charged with drug abuse and possession of crack cocaine.

He was arraigned in Second Department District Court and released on $1,000 restitution.
