Port Charlotte middle school student arrested after posting school shooting threat on social media

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WWSB) – A middle school student was arrested Friday after a school shooting threat appeared on TikTok.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office detectives were notified by FBI task force members of a possible school threat from a Charlotte County juvenile.

The user posted a TikTok comment on another user’s video that said, “I’m going to shoot up your school tomorrow.”

The school in question is not in Charlotte County.

Task force members conducted an investigation into the user’s account and comments and passed the information on to CCSO detectives. The account was determined to belong to a Port Charlotte middle school student.

Immediately afterward, investigators responded to the teen’s address and confirmed he was at home with family members. The teenager and his parents were questioned, during which he made a confession.

Probable cause for the arrest was determined to be a charge of making written or electronic threats to kill, cause bodily harm or mass shooting. The teen was taken into custody and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.
