Ohio State vs. Nebraska football match prediction, selection, distribution, odds, where to watch, TV channel, live stream

No. 4 Ohio State looks to get off the mat this weekend at home against Nebraska. The last time we saw the Buckeyes, Will Howard took a little too much time setting up a game-winning field goal attempt in the Buckeyes’ 32-31 loss to No. 1 Oregon at Autzen Stadium. They spent last weekend thinking about what could have been as they said goodbye and heard many questions about their team.

Now they face a Nebraska team that beat No. 13 Indiana 56-7 in front of the entire country last Saturday.

There’s a lot at stake this week. For Ohio State, with so many teams currently sitting atop the Big Ten standings, another loss could end any hope of a Big Ten title and a possible bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff. According to BetMGM Sportsbook, the Buckeyes are currently still the betting favorite to win the conference at +150. For Nebraska, another loss would drop the Cornhuskers to 2-3 in the conference and wipe out all the goodwill the team had built with its 5-1 start to the season.

Ohio State vs. Nebraska: What you need to know

Ohio State is 44-0 against unranked opponents under Ryan Day: There’s been a lot of talk in the days since Ohio State’s loss to Oregon about Ryan Day’s inability to “win the big game.” There is certainly a trend there that is worth criticizing (and a deeper look), there’s one aspect of Day’s tenure at Ohio State that can’t be questioned: The Buckeyes don’t downplay their opponents or lose games they shouldn’t. Not only has Ohio State gone 44-0 against unranked teams under Day, but Nebraska has also lost 26 straight games against ranked opponents.

Dylan Raiola is having problems right now: The young quarterback’s career got off to a fast start, but it looks like he’s hit the freshman wall. Even in Nebraska’s first loss to Illinois, Raiola performed well, throwing three touchdowns. But the last two weeks against Rutgers and Indiana were tough. Raiola completed less than 50% of his passes against the Scarlet Knights and threw three interceptions in last week’s loss to Indiana. He didn’t throw a touchdown in October but did throw four interceptions.

Ohio State lost its first left tackle for the season: Ohio State announced this week that starting left tackle Josh Simmons will miss the remainder of the season due to an injury he suffered in the loss to Oregon. It’s a big blow to the Buckeyes’ offense. While the skill position players get all the attention, this offensive line has been a big reason for the team’s success. What’s even more concerning is that the inside of the line is outstanding. If one were to argue that there was a weakness, it would be at the tackling spot, where Simmons was the team’s best player. Now Ohio State’s tackling depth will be tested, and the margin of error the Buckeyes had in their bid to win the Big Ten will be even narrower after the loss at Oregon.

Ohio State vs. Nebraska Prediction, Tips

Listen, the Buckeyes are a little down right now, but it’s not like this team was overwhelmed or outplayed by Oregon. It was a game between two quality teams and one managed to emerge victorious. Ohio State is still one of the best teams in the country, and while injuries could have a negative impact compared to other top contenders, I don’t put Nebraska in that class. Ohio State has all the motivation in the world to bounce back and put in an outstanding performance, but I’m having a hard time racking up as many points as sports betting apps want me to. I see some areas of this Ohio State defense that Nebraska can exploit if they make a few big plays. Give me the over. Selection: Over 48.5
