Florida Volleyball Hosts Tennessee For Dig Pink Match – ESPN 98.1 FM

The No. 24 Florida Gators volleyball team will face the Tennessee Volunteers tonight at the O’Connell Center at 7 p.m.

Gator dominance

After winning both road games last week, the Gators (13-5, 4-3 SEC) return home. In the two games, they limited their opponents to a .126 hitting percentage and defeated Texas A&M (14-4) and LSU (11-7) in three sets each.

Florida dominated Tennessee (10-7, 3-4) with a series record of 53-13. Tennessee went 3-2 in Gainesville last year.

The American Volleyball Coaches’ Association has ranked Florida among the top 25 teams for 526 consecutive weeks and has never fallen out of the top 25 for nine consecutive seasons.

Bigger thing

This particular game represents a much bigger cause. Dig Pink, an organization dedicated to raising money for research and revolutionizing breast cancer treatments, will be honored.

The Gators volleyball social media team released a tribute video in which the players talk about a special person and dedicate their game to honor Dig Pink.

Many players shared emotional and heartfelt messages about their personal experiences with breast cancer, while others discussed their role models.

Missing player

The Florida players will show a new dynamic for the first time. Veteran middle blocker Gabrielle Essix announced Thursday that she will sit out the remainder of the season after suffering an undisclosed season-ending injury that required surgery.

Essix played in 72 games for UF.

Match coverage

The SEC game is scheduled to air on ESPN 98.1-FM and 850-AM WRUF at 6:45 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to enter through Gates 1 or 3 will receive pink cups.
