This is what British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said Reuters on Friday that US-UK relations will remain strong regardless of whether Republican former President Donald Trump or Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris wins the US election on November 5.

“It is up to the American people to decide who they elect as president, and we will work with whomever the U.S. people return,” Reeves said in an interview on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington.

She said the British government has worked with Trump in the past and has worked closely with Harris in recent years as part of the Biden administration.

“We are therefore confident that the strong relationship between our two countries will continue in a week and a half,” Reeves said.

Asked about the mood around the US election at IMF and World Bank meetings during her first visit as Britain’s finance minister, she said officials were focused on measures to ease pressure on people’s living costs.

Reeves said that while the global economy had proven resilient and had achieved a “soft landing” with lower inflation and sustained economic growth, there had been “a recognition that for many people the cost of living crisis has occurred even as inflation has occurred.” “The cost of living has gone up.” is still very real, as higher prices – be it for energy or food – are locked in.”
