Three people charged in Chipl shooting

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Three men have been charged in connection with a shooting and pursuit investigation in Washington County.

According to Chipley police, on October 24, at approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of ​​Church Street and Deermont Circle in Chipley.

Officials said witnesses told them he and others were gathered in a yard when they saw three people standing near a white Kia Soul parked across the street.

According to law enforcement, witnesses said the three people had firearms and began shooting in their direction.

Officers later recovered shell casings from the scene and several cartridges were found in an occupied building, an unoccupied building and the driver’s door of the witnesses’ vehicle.

Police say the suspects fled in the Kia Soul after being fired, triggering a BOLO alert. Washington County officers were able to locate the vehicle and initiate a traffic stop.

This reportedly led to a high-speed chase that ended with the Kia crashing. Officers arrested the driver and passenger, later identified as JaMarion Pride and Keante Pride.

During the investigation, officers said a neighbor told them that a person matching the suspect’s descriptions entered her yard and asked to borrow shoes and make a phone call.

Officers were later able to identify the individual as Nassir Wright, who was reportedly trying to get a ride to Fort Walton Beach before leaving the area on foot.

Wright was later found and detained on Highway 90 near Avant Road.

Investigators said they found a loaded AK-47 magazine and loose ammunition in the suspect’s vehicle. A firearm believed to be involved was also found along the pursuit route.

Law enforcement said that based on the evidence, JaMarion Pride, Keante Pride and Nassir Wright will be charged under Florida Statute 790.19 for firing deadly missiles into occupied or unoccupied buildings or vehicles.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has charged all traffic violations, including the driver for fleeing and evading at a high rate of speed.
