Austria’s Leni Bohle: “My recent success is the result of intensive and focused training”

The Austrian gymnast has only competed in two international competitions in the last four months Leni Bohle She has won five medals and is aiming to add more awards to her collection while achieving high placings in the major events of the new Olympic cycle.

Bohle, a Dornbirn native who turned 17 on April 18, won silver in floor exercise and bronze in vault at the World Challenge Cup in Koper in June. Three weeks ago she won silver on balance beam, bronze on vault and bronze on floor at the World Challenge Cup in Szombathely.

Bohle and her trainer, Daniel Rexaplans to forego further international competitions this year and instead strengthen its all-around program for the European Championships in Leipzig and next year’s World Championships in Jakarta.

In this International Gymnast Online interview, Bohle reflects on her recent international breakthrough and predicts her future competitive prospects.

IGO: To what do you attribute this recent surge in performance and international success?

L.B: My most recent success is the result of intensive and targeted training. The excellent collaboration at the Linz State Performance Center under the leadership of Gabi Frehsealong with the long-standing support of my trusted trainer, Daniel Rexa, was a key factor.

IGO: What did your performances in Koper and Szombathely show you in terms of your current international status and your potential to be even more successful in the future?

L.B: My performances in Koper and especially in Szombathely showed me that I am competitive at international level and that my potential is far from being exhausted. These competitions have given me the confidence that with continued training and the right support I can achieve further success and develop my skills.

IGO: What are your plans for the rest of the year?

L.B: I will no longer take part in international competitions this year. I will use the time to work on improving my execution and difficulty values ​​and to further refine my exercises technically.

IGO: Next year there will be the European Championships in Leipzig and the World Championships in Jakarta. What plan do you and your trainer have to adapt your routines to the new Code of Points and also improve your overall gymnastics?

L.B: My trainer and I plan to specifically adapt our exercises to the new Code of Points in order to meet the requirements in all disciplines. We will focus on further improving the level of difficulty and execution in order to be best prepared for qualification for the European Championships and the World Championships.

IGO: You have won international medals in vault, balance beam and floor exercise. What is your goal to improve your performance on the uneven bars so that you can become an even stronger all-around gymnast?

L.B: My goal is to significantly improve my performance on the uneven bars in order to become an even more complete all-rounder. We are working hard to improve my technique and the difficulty of the elements so that I can be competitive on this apparatus and reach my full potential in all disciplines.

IGO: The Austrian team performed well in the last Olympic cycle and made it to the 2023 World Championships, where they finished around 10 points ahead of qualifying for Paris. What do you think are the key changes your team needs to make to have an even better chance of qualifying for Los Angeles 2028?

L.B: To improve our chances of qualifying for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, we must improve our team’s overall performance. We will focus on increasing the difficulty of our routines and refining our execution. In addition, we want to support and motivate each other so that every team member can develop their full potential.
