What to watch on TV instead of the Dodgers-Yankees World Series

What to watch on TV instead of the Dodgers-Yankees World Series

Today begins a series whose existence I could no longer have been afraid of. Watching Mookie Betts figure out how to hit in the postseason again was hurtful enough, but now we have to watch it in his second World Series appearance with the Dodgers against the Yankees…who Whoever thought this up is a true sadist.

So I give it full throttle. I refuse to watch this matchup born in the depths of hell, and if you want to boycott the capitalist nature of MLB and the World Series format with two of baseball’s biggest franchises, here are some suggestions on what you can do should turn on instead.

Boise State vs. UNLV

There’s nothing I’d rather do on a Friday night than watch Mountain Best football. Boise State and Heisman co-favorite Ashton Jeanty will travel west to visit the Rebels in a game that will decide the tie at the top of the Mountain West standings – at least for now. As a Colorado State fan, I’m kind of hoping both teams lose this game, but we’ll get to see some quality late night football at 10:30 PM EDT on CBS Sports Network.

Combine that with a 7:30 a.m. kickoff at Louisville/Boston College on ESPN2 while Rutgers visits sunny Southern California at 11 p.m. on FOX, and you’ll have plenty of action to watch on the CFB side comparable to Gerrit Cole’s Yankees team. And while I won’t be watching the championship sporting event taking place tonight, I will be actively praying for its demise.

On the other hand, I feel absolutely terrible for anyone who lives in the greater Los Angeles area and has to deal with traffic during Game 1 of the World Series, a Lakers game, AND a USC home game. I feel like someone in city planning or scheduling could have planned an alternative if the stars aligned.

KU vs. Arkansas (CBB Exhibition Game)

This is the most wonderful time of the year, when late summer turns into fall (well, it was 87° in Kansas yesterday, but that doesn’t apply to you New Englanders) and the four professional sports come together for two wonderful weeks will only be seen in another calendar year.

However, for a college student, this time of year also means the start of the college basketball season and also the halfway point of the college football season. And while there are usually some pretty boring pre-conference matchups in these early weeks, tonight we get a special treat in the CBB preseason with a Hall of Fame coaching matchup for the exhibition game between Kansas and Arkansas, the proceeds of which Ticket sales will be donated to Mental health care providers and charities in each school’s geographic area.

As a current KU student, I encourage you all to tune in to the SEC Network (accessible via EPSN+) at 9 p.m. to catch some top-notch preseason basketball and John Calipari’s coaching debut at Arkansas – which still seems so strange as I write it down.

Head coach Bill Self clarified that the game will be played in the quarterfinals and fouls will be reset at the start of each period. So it won’t quench the true thirst of the CBB freaks out there, but winning a legendary coaching duel against two top-20 teams in the preseason is still a pleasure.

There hasn’t been much pregame coverage yet, so just enjoy this video of Bill Self at work at Wendy’s, which looks like a circus that I probably go to once a week.

Love is Blind – Season 7 Finale

If the work week has kept you too busy to finish the wedding episodes for this season of Love is Blind, tonight is a great night to get back on track. I watched the episode in person last night and have a lot of things to discuss with people online.

And if you haven’t seen Love is Blind yet and have an active Netflix subscription, watch it NOW. You have five and a half days to watch 13 episodes and still have the opportunity to watch the reunion live on Wednesday. This season has produced some of the wildest drama of a season with not much real conflict in its episodes. The whole thing is a very meta experience and I would more than recommend checking out Mina Kimes’ review show once you’ve finished each series of episodes as it really takes the viewing experience to a new level and keeps you up to date on everything the various internet events in the Love is Blind multiverse.

“The comeback”

Unfortunately, this week’s work/school/college basketball/college football busyness kept me from watching the new series about the 2004 Red Sox, and I really can’t think of anything better to watch, while the Yankees lose their first World Series game since 2009.

I’m sure many of you, like most of our writers, have already sat through all three episodes, but tonight I plan on playing some Mountain West/ACC football and Kansas basketball before the game, with a reminder of the greatest times of my life, unfortunately my eight-month-old brain couldn’t commit them to memory.

Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS

To follow the “comeback” narrative, why not just watch the original on YouTube without sensationalizing the whole thing through documentary formatting? The 20th anniversary of the comeback’s completion is five days late, but it’s never too late to relive that glorious day and watch the Yankee Stadium stands completely collapse after Johnny Damon’s second-half grand slam.
