Daisy Ridley says her Rey film doesn't have a release date, but says she's 'really excited for what's to come' [Exclusive]

“star Wars“has really been through a lot lately. They haven’t had a film on the screen since 2019. Yesterday, filmmaker James Mangold said his “Dawn of the Jedi“The film (a working title) could start filming as early as next year, which immediately confused fans as most thought Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy-Directed film with Daisy Ridley‘S Rey, unofficially called: “The New Jedi Order” from fans, the next would be “star WarsThe film will then be released in cinemas Jon Favreau‘S Film from May 2026, “The Mandalorian and Grogu.”

Then this morning, what seemed like bad news came when it was revealed that the film’s longtime author, Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders“”Spencer”), had left the project (something fans had been speculating about for months).

There were worrying headlines this morning about Star Wars being in trouble again, setbacks, the continued “loss of writers” for the Rey film, and a lot of what feels like concern.

But I hear it from Daisy Ridley herself, who doesn’t seem worried at all – we just spoke to her this morning about her new film.”magpie” for an upcoming episode of our podcast “The Discourse” – it’s all just part of the process.

Before we addressed the obvious, The Discourse host Mike DeAngelo asked Ridley if we would appear in what he affectionately called “”Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money” (not an actual title) and whether she was contractually obligated not to talk about it.

The actress blurted out with a wholesome lol: “Hahaha! Spaceballs 2!” she laughed. “No, you’re the first to ask me that. Well, a friend of mine is – I don’t know if it’s public knowledge, but a friend of mine might be involved in the particular spaceball thing. Maybe I talked to them about something.”

Then The Discourse asked about the recent Steven Knight news, but the actress didn’t seem to care (and if the reports are true, she’s known about it for some time).

As for the Christmas date of 2026, which many have assumed is the release date of The New Jedi Order movie? Ridley says it’s not theirs and they don’t have a set date.

“We don’t have a date,” she said matter-of-factly, explaining a little about what was going on behind the scenes. “I think the creative process is really a journey.”

Ridley didn’t say whether she’s read a new script or knows what direction it will take, but strongly hinted that she knows something in her excitement. The actress also said that Lucasfilm is not rushing the project and is taking the time to get it right.

“And I’m really, really excited. And I said I’m very excited, but I really mean I’m excited for what’s to come. And I think we really have the luxury of making sure that this is done right.”

So nothing on the calendar until there is actually something to put on the calendar?

“Yes!” she exclaimed. “So when everything’s ready, we’ll get started, and it’s very—yes, it’s good.”

Ridley remained mum after that, but if her passion for everything seemed genuine, perhaps we’ll learn more in the coming months about who will steer the ship from a writing perspective in the future.

So does this mean Mangold’s film will accept the open release date of December 2026? It’s possible, but if we’ve all learned anything by now, Lucasfilm isn’t going to put the cart before the horse and set stories first rather than release dates. More of this interview soon.
