Mustafa Bush’s jury is seated, with opening statements beginning Monday

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) — A 15-member jury convened Friday in the murder trial of Mustafa Bush. Opening statements are expected to begin Monday.

There are 12 jurors with three alternates.

Bush, of Rochester, is charged with the December 2022 murder of Kimberly Ann Robinson, 41, of Eyota.

On Monday, Bush filed a motion to challenge the jury pool, calling for a more diverse jury panel.

On Friday, Judge Doug Bayley denied that request.

According to the filing, Olmsted County jury manager Ann Olson testified that the Department of Public Safety compiles lists of jurors each year and sends subpoenas to potential jurors six months in advance.

While only one of the 93 potential jurors summoned for this case identifies as Black or African American, Bayley said Bush must present a case that demonstrates systemic exclusion over time, which was not the case in Bush’s request.
