UFC 308 climaxes with one of the biggest events remaining on the schedule. The main event features a featherweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway, Topuria’s first title defense.

Topuria (15-0 MMA) is seven months removed from knocking out then-champion Alexander Volkanovski with a second-round TKO at UFC 298. It was Topuria’s seventh Octagon win since 2020 and became the first Georgian UFC champion. The win was Topuria’s fourth KO/TKO win in the UFC, making him only the third fighter to KO/TKO the South Wales native.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Holloway (26-7 MMA) has been on a collision course to regain his title since dropping it from Volkanovski in December 2019, beginning a streak of three fights in less than three years. Holloway lost all three, including the UFC 251 decision, where many media members, fans, pundits and UFC CEO Dana White said Holloway did enough to win.

Four years later, just in April. Holloway decided to increase his weight to face former interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. Gaethje came into the fight having won three of his last four victories, including a head knockout, to secure the “BMF” title against Gaethje last July.

Holloway had other ideas. Through volume, effortless striking range and sheer determination, he chose the jugular. Holloway showed a ruthless attitude in the final seconds of the fifth round, catching Gaethje with a hook as both men traded punches.

The win earned Holloway a title shot, giving him the opportunity to become a two-time champion.

Is this Holloway’s last attempt to regain fame? It remains to be seen, but the fight is shaping up to be one of the best attractions in the sport right now.

In the co-main event, former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (26-7 MMA) meets Khamzat Chimaev (13-0 MMA) in a five-round non-title bout with Dricus Du Plessis.
