Chantava and Roselli escape East Carolina and advance to the doubles semifinals

HOUSTON – The shocker duo from Giorgia Roselli And Theodora Chantava continued their run at the AAC singles championships with a narrow win over an East Carolina pair Friday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

Roselli and Chantava earned a narrow 8-7 (5) win over East Carolina’s Ines Bachir and Xenia Jeromin to advance to Saturday’s doubles semifinals.

The Shocker pair will face the top seeds in the field, Millie-Mae Matthews and Malwina Rowinski of Florida Atlantic, tomorrow morning for a spot in the doubles finals.

In singles, Kristina Kudryavtseva defeated Lou Chalard of North Texas when Chalard had to retire late in the third set.

Kudryavtseva will play Tulane’s Leigh Van Zyl for a spot in the consolation final tomorrow at 9 a.m. If Kudryavtseva wins, she will play either Lily Hutchings of Tulsa or Stanislava Shulzhenko of North Texas at noon Saturday.

The doubles match between Roselli and Chantava is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with the winner advancing to Sunday’s doubles final. The winner of the final will receive an automatic bid to the ITA Conference Master’s Tournament, taking place November 7-10 in Rome, Georgia.
