The search for the suspect continues after a 14-year-old girl died following the shooting in Central Falls

(WJAR) — Police say the 14-year-old girl who was critically injured in a shooting in Central Falls on Thursday has died.

Central Falls Police continue to search for the person responsible.

Thursday morning, police responded to 22 Earle Street for a report of an unconscious woman.

Officers found a girl who appeared to have a gunshot wound and was critically injured.

She was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

On Friday, the department confirmed that the girl had sadly passed away.

She was a freshman in high school.

On Thursday, Central Falls Mayor Maria Rivera said she was heartbroken to hear about the shooting.

“The news that a young girl was shot and killed in our city today breaks my heart,” Rivera wrote on social media. “As a mother and your mayor, I have fought tirelessly to make our streets safer and prevent these senseless acts of violence. But today it’s a reminder that we still have so much work to do.”
