CenterPoint Releases Independent, Third-Party Review of Company’s Response to Hurricane Beryl

CenterPoint Releases Independent, Third-Party Review of Company’s Response to Hurricane Beryl

CenterPoint Energy has released the results of an independent report prepared on the company’s response to Hurricane Beryl in July.

It does not provide an overall summary of CenterPoint’s results or performance.

The report includes 77 recommendations that CenterPoint could implement to improve its preparedness and response to future natural disasters.

The report comes weeks after CenterPoint CEO Jason Wells spoke with KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding in an exclusive interview in which he detailed the Houston community’s complaints about the company’s response to the natural disaster. A full transcript of their conversation can be found here.

According to CenterPoint, the independent report was prepared by PA Consulting Group between July 31 and October 15 and included an analysis of customer outage data, communications from CenterPoint and interviews with members of the CenterPoint team – including those in leadership positions.

According to CenterPoint, of the 77 recommended actions listed in the review, the company has completed and implemented 18 and is in the process of implementing 33 more, for a total of 51.

The report’s completed recommendations include replacing the outage map and tracker, purchasing additional smaller generators, and optimizing communication strategies between the company and its customers.

Ongoing recommendations include increasing call center capacity during disasters, modifying tree trimming cycles and increasing the use of composite poles throughout CenterPoint’s service area.

The remaining 26 recommendations are listed as “under evaluation.”
