Martinez police make a carjacking arrest Friday morning

Martinez police announced the arrest of a woman in connection with a carjacking Friday morning.

On October 25, 2024, at approximately 6:44 a.m., Martinez Police Officers responded to 601 Marina Vista (Amtrak Station) for a report of an adult female, later identified as Christina Starneswhich led to disruptions on the platform.

When officers arrived, the individual was uncooperative with officers, refused assistance and received a refund from Amtrak.

Um 7:21 amMartinez police officers responded to the Amtrak station for a report of a carjacking that had just occurred. While the victim was arranging his luggage in the back seat of his parked car, the person from the previous call, Christina Starnes, forcibly took possession of the victim’s vehicle and ran over the victim’s foot as it sped away.

A second elderly passenger was forced from the moving vehicle and dragged before she was able to free herself. Both the driver and passenger required medical transport and treatment for injuries sustained during the crime.

Um 9:14 a.m., Martinez police and Amtrak police investigators tracked Starnes, who was still in the stolen vehicle, to Walnut Creek, where she was taken into custody.

A Martinez police officer suffered minor injuries during the arrest and later received medical treatment.

Starnes was booked into the Martinez Detention Center on the charges listed below and is being held on $315,000.00 bail. She is not cooperating with the investigators.

  • Charges: 215 PC (carjacking), 368 PC (aggravated elder abuse), 496 PC (possession of stolen property), 69 PC (aggravated resisting a police officer), 148 PC (resisting/delaying a police officer)
