Gomez was eliminated on day two of the SLC Championships

HAMMOND, La. – Sophomore at Southeastern Louisiana University Leana Gomez dropped a tough three-set decision in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles draw of the inaugural Southland Conference Individual Tennis Championships on Friday night at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.

After winning a grueling three-set decision in the first round on Thursday, Gomez made it three sets again on Friday in her quarterfinal match against No. 2 seed Felicia Back of Stephen F. Austin. The Miami, Fla., won the first set, but Back rallied in the final two sets for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 win to face Northwestern State’s Honoka Umeda in the semifinals Saturday at 3 p.m
