Millions have been moved online by a mother in China who was seriously injured in a gas explosion but managed to rescue her young son from danger.

Huang Jiamei, a 38-year-old housewife from east China’s Zhejiang Province, was cooking in the kitchen of her home when gas leaks exploded on October 14.

Her two-year-old son Xu Nuo was standing in front of the closed kitchen door and crying for her when the explosion occurred. The door was blown open and the child was trapped underneath.

Home surveillance camera footage posted by her husband, Xu Xiaohui, shows Huang running from the kitchen screaming in pain, but the first thing she did was retrieve her son.

Even though the skin was peeling from her arms, she gently held her son up and set him down somewhere safe.

Huang then called Xu and told neighbors to call an emergency hotline.

Xu, who works as a hairdresser, immediately rushed home and was shocked to find that his wife’s hair was singed, her skin had fallen off her swollen hands and legs, and her face was pale from the searing heat.
