In its first season under Manny Diaz, Duke is off to an impressive 6-1 start. Now the Blue Devils have a chance at a top-25 win as No. 22 SMU comes to Durham.

Just last Friday night, Duke got its first win over Florida State, reaching six wins and bowl eligibility. The Blue Devils only had 180 yards of total offense in the game, but their defense forced four turnovers. Duke also sacked Florida State quarterbacks six times.

While this was a big win for the Duke program, the lack of success on offense could prove to be an Achilles’ heel against an SMU team capable of putting up some big numbers on the scoreboard.

The Mustangs have won four games in a row and just beat Stanford 40-10 last weekend. During this winning streak, SMU has scored at least 34 points in every game. During this time, quarterback Kevin Jennings was a fireworks display. Not only did he throw for 994 yards, he rushed for 184 more yards and scored nine total touchdowns.

SMU might face a little more resistance against Duke, which has yet to allow more than 24 points in a single game this fall.
