Shasta County man arrested on murder charges after Shingletown shooting

A man was arrested on murder charges following a shooting in Shingletown on Thursday.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said their deputies were dispatched to the 34000 block of Side Bottom Road around 9:40 p.m. for reports of a victim with a gunshot wound.

According to SCSO, a deceased woman was found in the apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin have been notified. SCSO said an autopsy is planned.

SCSO contacted 46-year-old Joseph Colin Scribner, who was at the scene. SCSO said Colin admitted to being present when the incident occurred.

The investigation was then handed over to the Major Crimes Unit (MCU), who interviewed Colin. After the interview, SCSO said Colin was arrested for murder and taken to the Shasta County Jail with his bond set at $1 million.

SCSO said the motive leading to this incident has not been determined and no further details will be released.

Colin’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
