Navy scored five rushing touchdowns and outrebounded Molloy 205-25.



ROCKVILLE CENTER, NY – The Navy sprint football team (4-1) earned a 34-0 victory over Collegiate Sprint Football League newcomer Molloy (0-5) on Friday night at Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Midshipmen defeated the Lions 205 to 25, scoring five rushing touchdowns in the game.

“Our guys wanted to come back from the break week and focused on getting better all week,” said head coach Captain Carter Reading, USMC said after the game. “The boys came out tonight and played a clean, hard game. Molloy fought hard, but our boys were up to the challenge.”

The Midshipmen relied heavily on their ground attack and finished the game with 205 rushing yards on 37 attempts, an average of 5.5 yards per carry. The Mids took advantage of the strong rushing performance and reached the end zone five times on the ground. Hunter Gennicks And Broderick Freeman scored two rushing touchdowns each. Gennicks averaged 6.6 yards per carry and finished with 66 yards on 10 carries, while Freeman averaged 8.8 yards per carry for 53 yards on six carries. Ibi Denson led the team with 71 rushing yards on 11 attempts, an average of 6.5 yards per carry, and scored the Mids’ fifth and final touchdown.

Navy used three quarterbacks in the game Luke Wagner, Luke O’ConnellAnd JP Bobo finished a combined 7-for-13 for 119 yards. Wagner completed three passes for 38 yards, while O’Connell added three completions for a team-high 78 yards. Bobo, who ended the game, completed a pass for three yards.

Five different mids caught passes in the game. Bryce Smith had one reception for a team-best 47 yards while Jackson Suddath added a pair of receptions for 33 yards. Biamungu Nkere returned two balls for 30 yards, with Freeman and Denson each adding a catch for a total of nine yards.

Defensively, 25 different Navy players recorded tackles in the game. The Mids finished the game with 4.0 tackles and 3.0 sacks. Connor Miltenberger led the team with seven tackles while Tyler Opdahl added six stops. TJ Silvernale And Christian Conley Each finished with five tackles apiece. Conley, Bobby RudzkiAnd Andrew Bailey Each recorded a tackle for loss, while Miltenberger and Kevin Dennis combined for a TFL. Rudzki and Bailey each managed a sack, while Miltenberger and Conley combined for a sack.

The Midshipmen were able to take an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Gennicks capped a four-play, 25-yard drive with a six-yard dash into the end zone. Sutton converted the extra point to give Navy a 7-0 lead with 9:18 to play in the first quarter.

The Mids extended their lead in the second period. Navy drove 55 yards down the field on a 12-play drive, with Freeman running into the end zone from four yards out.

Navy opened the second half with a touchdown on its first drive. Gennicks scored his second score of the game on a five-yard rush. The drive covered 50 yards on just six plays in just under three and a half minutes of play. Just over five minutes later, the Midshipmen extended the lead to 27-0. Freeman found the end zone again, turning a 10-yard run into a five-play, 46-yard drive.

The Midshipmen scored just two and a half minutes into the fourth quarter. The Mids methodically moved 80 yards downfield in seven plays to extend the lead to 34-0. Navy finished the drive with its fifth rushing score of the game, while Denson added to the total with an 11-yard rushing TD.

Next, the Midshipmen return to Annapolis for the final home game of the 2024 season, which includes a divisional game against Penn. The game, which is Navy’s Senior Day, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on the Navy Athletics YouTube channel and live stats will be available.
