The co-main event will see former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker take on Khamzat Chimaev in a five-round bout. The fight was originally scheduled to take place in June for Saudi Arabia, but Chimaev withdrew due to illness, something that has happened far too often for him since a severe COVID-19 infection in 2020.

Whittaker won the UFC middleweight title in 2017 but lost it to Israel Adesanya in 2019. Since then, he has gone 6-2 in his last eight fights and is on a two-fight winning streak. “The Reaper” defeated Ikram Aliskerov, Chimaev’s successor, via first-round knockout.

The Australian wants to finally get his hands on Chimaev and show why he should wear gold around his waist again.

“As soon as he steps into the octagon with me, he’s in deep waters. He’s already in the waters I want him in,” Whittaker told talkSPORT about BJ Penn.

“I left no stone unturned and trained my whole heart for it. I’ll come in there, I have 25 minutes with him. I try to shake his head off for a whole 25 minutes.”

Since being affected by COVID-19 in 2020, Chimaev has fought four times since 2021.

Meanwhile, light heavyweight contender Magomed Ankalaev (18-1-1, 1NC), who is undefeated in twelve fights, puts his number one ranking on the line against Aleksandar Rakic (14-4), who is ranked fifth and in two fights fifth place is on a losing streak.
