The Fairbanks Borough Assembly certifies the results of the 2024 municipal election

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – At Thursday night’s regular meeting, the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly voted unanimously to certify the results of the October 1 municipal election.

In a report from County Clerk April Trickey, members were informed that of nearly 20,000 ballots cast, 87 were challenged.

These were disqualified for a variety of reasons, from failure to register the voter, to registration in another county, to late registration of the voter.

Two were not counted because of felony convictions, and another four were duplicate ballots.

Following the certification, the assembly hosted the swearing-in of three of its members as well as the borough’s elected mayor, Grier Hopkins, and others.

Trickey performed the ceremony for Reps. Kristan Kelly and David Guttenberg, who currently hold seats, as well as Tammie Wilson, who previously served in the Assembly.

The trio won their seats in local elections on October 1.

When the final ballots were counted on October 8, Guttenberg and Kelly responded to their comments by saying, “It feels great.” Elections are a difficult thing. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I’m sure this is my last time. I’ve said that before, but I’m sure it will be, and this is a great community, a great community to represent, so I’m proud and honored to be re-elected.”

Meanwhile, Kelly said: “It’s a huge relief and I’m obviously very happy and excited to start working and I’m looking forward to the next three years. “I have some experience now and I hope I can be more effective and can complete my tasks.”
