NASA boss calls for investigation into contacts between Musk and Putin

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson has called for an investigation into Elon Musk’s communications with the Kremlin after a Wall Street Journal A report found that the billionaire X CEO and Trump donor has been communicating regularly with Russian President Vladimir Putin since late 2022.

“I don’t know if this story is true,” Nelson said Semafor on Friday. “I think it should be investigated. If the story is true that there were multiple conversations between Elon Musk and the President of Russia, then I think that would be concerning, especially for NASA and the Department of Defense. [and] for some of the intelligence agencies.”

NASA is working with SpaceX, which Nelson praised as “phenomenally successful.”

The news of a close relationship between Musk and Putin comes not long after it was reported that Donald Trump himself has also spoken to Putin since leaving office.

According to journalist Bob Woodward, Trump has had up to seven conversations with the Russian president since the beginning of 2021. This was also the period during which, the Justice Department alleges, Trump was in possession of classified national security documents.

As for Musk, he has not responded to the allegations.
