Wanted criminal held in clash with police

After a brief exchange of fire on Thursday night, police arrested a suspected criminal who was wanted for attempted murder.

The defendant injured in the shooting was taken to the hospital. A pistol and two cartridges were confiscated.

A police department spokesperson said the encounter took place near Sector 59 (adjacent to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway) when a police team led by sub-inspector Jagminder reached the spot to arrest the accused, identified as Manish.

He said when police asked him to surrender, he opened fire to avoid arrest. While one of the bullets hit the SI, the police opened fire in self-defense, injuring the accused as he was hit in the leg. This led to the arrest of the accused.

He had been on the run for the past few weeks after he was involved in a shootout incident on October 5 in which Rajnish Singh, a resident of Bharat Colony, was injured.

The police confiscated a .32 caliber pistol and two live cartridges. While a case was registered with various departments of the BNS, the accused was shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment in police custody.
