Local fire stations in and around Lock Haven have been actively visiting area schools throughout October to provide fire safety presentations in celebration of Fire Prevention Month. The aim of these visits is to educate students on the importance of fire safety and preparedness and to ensure children know how to respond in an emergency.

Firefighters from multiple stations worked with students in interactive sessions, demonstrating the use of fire safety equipment and explaining the basics of fire prevention. They cover important topics such as the importance of smoke detectors, creating and implementing an escape plan for the whole family and the dangers of playing with fire.

One of the highlights of these visits is the opportunity for students to explore a real fire engine. Firefighters take a tour of the truck and show off the various tools and equipment they use in their daily operations. This hands-on experience helps demystify the role of firefighters and makes the lessons more memorable for children.

Additionally, firefighters share personal stories and experiences and emphasize the real-world importance of fire safety measures. They also provide students with educational materials and resources to take home and encourage families to discuss and implement fire safety measures together.

The initiative has been well received by both students and educators who appreciate firefighters’ efforts to make fire safety education engaging and accessible. By visiting schools and interacting directly with students, local fire stations promote a community that is better prepared and more aware of fire safety.
