Trump raises questions about participating in ABC debate: ‘Stay tuned’

Former President Trump fielded questions Sunday about his participation in next month’s ABC News-moderated debate with Vice President Harris.

Trump complained about the network’s panel in a post on Truth Social and an interview moderator Jonathan Karl conducted with Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) on “This Week” to ask why he was attending a debate he moderated should agree network.

“I watched ABC FAKE NEWS this morning, both lightweight reporter Jonathan Carl’s (K?) ridiculous and biased interview with Tom Cotton (who was fantastic!) and their so-called Panel of Trump Haters, and I’m wondering why I “What should the debate against Kamala Harris do on this network?” Trump wrote.

Trump quoted “This Week” panelist Donna Brazile, who provided advance briefings to Hillary Clinton’s campaign on civic issues during the 2016 primary, and suggested something similar could happen with Harris. He also asked whether ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, with whom he is embroiled in a legal battle, would play a role in the debate, although there is no indication of this.

“You have a lot of questions to answer!!!” Trump wrote. “Why did Harris reject Fox, NBC, CBS and even CNN? Stay tuned!!!”

Trump had previously agreed to an ABC News-moderated debate with President Biden on September 10. After Biden was replaced by Harris on the Democratic ticket, Trump expressed doubts about his participation.

The two sides ultimately agreed to hold the debate on September 10 with ABC News. While Trump pushed for additional debates on Fox News and NBC News in September, the Harris campaign said it would first agree to the ABC News event before discussing a possible second presidential debate.

The Sept. 10 debate will take place in Philadelphia and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis, the network said.
