Men’s tennis opens Elon Invite with five wins on day one

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men’s tennis team picked up five wins on opening day of the Elon Invitational Friday, including three singles victories and two doubles victories.

Veljko Krstic And Jack Curtis won both morning doubles matches, starting with a dramatic 7-6 victory in the opening game over Martin Garcia-Ripoll Ore and Francisco Lamas of ETSU. Krstic and Curtis fought off three match points and secured a 13-11 win in the tiebreak. The duo then turned around and defeated Wake Forest’s Cornelius Alexander Shalmi and Martin Mazev 6-2 to advance to the Flight A final.

Krstic also won his singles match with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Carlos Victor Ferreira Gonzales of ETSU, 7-5, 6-3. Charles Pilet And Alonso Roca also picked up individual victories for the Phoenix, defeating opponents from Richmond.

Saturday’s games start at 9 a.m., it will be a single day.
