Arsenal legend Seaman is “nervous” about the game against Liverpool, with the result “depending on” the Gunners star’s fitness

Arsenal legend David Seaman says he is “nervous” about the Gunners’ Premier League clash against title rivals Liverpool but is optimistic Bukayo Saka will be available.

Mikel Arteta’s men host the Reds on Sunday after a unconvincing 1-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Liverpool Afterwards managed to win three out of three in Europe survive a difficult trip to RB Leipzig.

arsenal have several injury problems ahead of Sunday’s game, while William Saliba is suspended following his red card against Bournemouth last week.

Ex-Gunners goalkeeper Seaman is not confident but believes his former side have a chance if Bukayo Saka is fit.

“If I’m honest I’m a bit nervous because depending on Saka we won’t be at our best,” Seaman said.

“But when I was at Arsenal last Thursday training with the young goalkeepers, I saw Bukayo in his boots and thought: ‘Ah, good sign’. No trainers or anything like that. He wanted to do individual rehab, so that was a good sign. Hopefully it’s not that bad.

“The only clear indication they have is that Saliba is out with his suspension.

“It will be tough, but these are the games you want. These tell you how good you are or how good you will be in the season.

“I find [Riccardo] Califiori will probably go to left center half and then I don’t know what the situation is [Jurrien] Wood. This is a natural position for him as a left-back.

“[Jakub] Kiwior made the mistake on the second goal and he was like that, sometimes he has great games and then he makes a little mistake.

“But I’m not too worried because we have a strong team on the bench. It doesn’t matter, it’s about getting a result. That’s what we have to do. Getting results when you don’t do your best.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal fan and presenter Laura Woods has claimed Arne Slot’s side are “Manchester City’s biggest challengers” for the Premier League title.

“I watched Liverpool in the European Cup on Wednesday and although they didn’t blow away RB Leipzig, it was a good game for Darwin Nunez’s confidence,” she said. “As he scored a goal and performed well throughout the game, he will have to be at his best against Arsenal if he replaces Diogo Jota again.

“Liverpool look organized, less chaotic and more controlled under Arne Slot. He also has a brilliant team and their defense is once again immense. I think it will be defense that will lead them to a title.

“Jürgen Klopp has left them in a really good position, with some very promising young players and a few experienced old heads who know how to navigate the league.”

“I was keen to give them a transitional season but I was so impressed that I think they are now Manchester City’s biggest challengers.”

Woods added: “I think it’s a bigger game for Arsenal. If they lose, they risk losing touch with the title race. Yes, even this early!

“Liverpool haven’t lost in eight games and it’s still a very tough game at the Emirates. The pressure is not increasing to the same extent as for Arsenal.”

Woods believes Arsenal are shooting themselves in the foot with their disciplinary problems after Saliba became the third Gunner to be sent off in a Premier League game this season, following Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.

“I’m worried about Arsenal, with injuries and suspensions. No Ricardo Calafiori, no Martin Odegaard, no Jurien Timber and no William Saliba,” she said. “I’ll tell you what, it’s pretty annoying being an Arsenal fan at the moment!

“It’s even more annoying to feel like a broken record and mention that Tosin Adarabioyo was booked the next day just for a foul like Saliba on Diogo Jota.

“Yes, we Arsenal fans complain, but we should also all value consistency in the league when making decisions like this because next week it will be your team.

“However, Arsenal need to take a bit of responsibility and stop putting themselves in situations like this. We are literally losing points and giving away games. We don’t look like it at all!”
