Man dies after shooting on Sunday

KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) – Kearney police announced Friday that the 62-year-old who was shot Sunday has died.

Police arrested 56-year-old Karen Geisler Sunday afternoon after a shooting was reported at a home near West 18th Street and Seventh Avenue just after 2 p.m.

According to court documents, when police arrived they found 62-year-old Jimmy Geisler suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital.

KPD will participate in a scheduled autopsy and consult with the Buffalo County Prosecutor’s Office regarding a possible change in criminal charges pending autopsy results.

Further details of the shooting are not known because Buffalo County Judge Gerald Jorgenson sealed the files at the request of the Buffalo County District Attorney.

Judge Jorgenson has scheduled a hearing on the case for November 14th. Karen Geisler is being held at the Buffalo County Detention Center on $500,000 bail. If convicted of the weapons offense, she could face up to 50 years in prison.
