Firefighters battle bushfires in North Attleboro | Local News

The bulk of the fire was reported around 3:30 a.m., but firefighters remained on scene for several hours extinguishing hot spots and carrying out cleanup.

Plainville firefighters initially assisted city firefighters, then Norton and Foxboro fire departments later sent brush trucks and engines.

The Bristol County Task Force sent brush trucks, as did the state Department of Conservation, along with a tanker truck.

The Mansfield Emergency Management Agency sent personnel and an all-terrain vehicle (UTV) to serve as a shuttle for firefighters and supplies.

The emergency services also reached the scene of the fire on Elmwood Street via a power line.

A strict warning has been issued for the region for Saturday as the weather continues to be extremely dry and very windy.

The warning from the National Weather Service office in Norton is scheduled to be in effect from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and covers Bristol and Norfolk counties.

Winds are forecast to reach 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph and low humidity.

A red flag warning is issued during critical fire weather conditions.

“Any fire that develops will start and spread quickly” and be difficult to stop, the weather service said, advising against any outdoor fires.

There has been little rain in the last two months, and there has been no significant precipitation for several weeks, and none in sight.

It was one of the driest stretches of weather this area has seen in decades.
