Fort Worth police arrested Altman shortly before 5 p.m. Friday near East Lancaster Avenue and Poplar Street in downtown Fort Worth, police confirmed Friday evening. He was held at the Lon Evans Corrections Center.

“Thanks to the combined efforts of FWPD and other law enforcement agencies, the arrest occurred without incident,” Fort Worth police said.

Altman, 33, was wanted in connection with the Oct. 3 shooting of Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant, which triggered a Blue Alert that lit up cellphones nationwide the next morning. Altman is charged with attempted murder of a peace officer.

Shortly after 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 3, Plant and another officer attempted to serve an arrest warrant against Altman for residential burglary, Texas Department of Public Safety officials previously told the Avalanche-Journal. DPS said as officers approached Altman, the suspect pulled out a handgun, fired several shots and shot Plant. Altman then reportedly fled on foot.

The chief was flown to a hospital in Lubbock and released several days later.
