Another record-breaking game is coming up for the Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball

Another record-breaking game is coming up for the Nebraska Cornhuskers Volleyball

Over the past two seasons, wins have been of utmost importance to the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team. However, there was also an emphasis on making sure the Huskers broke occasional attendance lists.

Volleyball Day was the beginning, but not the end, for John Cook’s team. They also set the record Visit to the Bob Devaney Center. Now Cook has another record on his mind.

He would like to see the Nebraska Cornhuskers Break the Big Ten’s attendance record this time. And according to Cook, they’ll have a chance to do that by playing a game at Pinnacle Bank Arena next season.

The Purdue Boilermakers may have fallen in five sets to the Huskers on Oct. 11, but they beat Nebraska for a different reason. In a game against Indiana on October 19, the Boilermakers gathered 14,876 spectators at Mackey Arena, home of the Purdue basketball team, breaking the attendance record for a Big Ten game set in 2004 when Illinois drew 10,927 spectators against Minnesota played.

During a conversation with Lauren Cook-West about her Kick back with the chefs Speaking on the Huskers Radio Network podcast about the record set by Purdue, Cook said: “I immediately texted Troy (Dannen), our athletic director, and said, ‘Okay, the game is on. We have to break through this.’”

“Next year we will definitely go to the PBA (Pinnacle Bank Arena) so we can get that record too,” Cook said.

Pinnacle Bank Arena is the home of the Nebraska men’s and women’s basketball teams and seats 15,500. The current PBA record for a volleyball game was set in 2016 when the U.S. national team packed 10,213 fans into the building.

It doesn’t seem like it would be hard to break this PBA record, and while Purdue’s record will be harder to break, one thing is clear. When Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are told they need to help the volleyball team break a record, they’re quick to do so.
