New Zealand wins by 113 runs, India loses the series at home after 12 years

Updates:

3:57 p.m.: That’s all, New Zealand created history by becoming the first team since 2012 to beat India in a Test series in India.

New Zealand (259 and 255) beat India (156 and 245) by 113 runs to win their first ever series here.

3.05pm: WICKET! Ravichandran Ashwin c 18 (34 balls). India 206/8 (49.3 overs)

2:15 p.m.: India suffers another batting crash. They started the session at 81/1 but slumped to 178/7 en route to victory.

2:00 p.m.: Sharp reaction from Will Young who holds the catch at short leg to dismiss Washington Sundar. Glenn Phillips gets his first wicket.

1:51 p.m.: This is also the end of Sarfaraz Khan and Mitchell Santner has his 5th and 12th for the game. Terrific. India are at 166/6.

1:29 p.m.: Mitchell Santner sees the back of Kohli as he picks up his fourth delivery, removing the star batter for the second time in the game.

1:00 p.m.: Mitchell Santner with a brilliant throw and Tom Blundell catches Rishabh Pant short. Pant was found to be a meter too short and he has to catch a duck.

12:54 p.m.: Mitchell Santner takes a crucial shot and it is the massive wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal who has to go on 77. There are also ten in the match for the left-arm spinner.

12:28 p.m.: Shubman Gill gets a start but has to go for 23 as Mitchell Santner does the trick again.

12:24 p.m.: Yashasvi Jaiswal reaches his half-century off 41 balls as New Zealand burns both reviews against the left-hander.

11:35 a.m.: The teams go to lunch as India finish at 81/1 with Yashasvi Jaiswal in full action. But they lost Rohit Sharma, giving them 278 more runs with nine wickets in the shed.

11:22 a.m.: The single after Jaiswal’s maximum takes the target below 300.

11:08 a.m.: Mitchell Santner picks up where he left off. Rohit Sharma is the first to leave the field as he falls one short.

10:49 a.m.: India moved to 15 in 1.3 overs as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma made their intentions clear.

10:30 a.m.: Brilliant work from Ravindra Jadeja as he narrowly catches Will O’Rourke at the non-striker’s end. India bowl out New Zealand for 255 and put on 359 for victory.

10:24 a.m.: Tom Blundell’s six takes New Zealand’s final 350, but they only have one wicket left.

9:50 a.m.: Ravindra Jadeja takes the first wicket of the day, dismissing Tom Blundell who scores a solid 41.

9:36 a.m.: Glenn Phillips smashed two boundaries in Ravichandran Ashwin’s first over of the day. New Zealand’s lead increases to 310.

With a healthy lead of 301 already, New Zealand will be looking to achieve even more as the third day of the 2nd Test against India begins. The first and second days of the Test largely went the way of the Black Caps as they came out well prepared and looked like a well-coordinated team. Therefore, they have given themselves a monumental chance to complete one of the toughest tasks in the history of Test cricket.

As for the Indian team, they suffered batting slumps in all three innings they batted against New Zealand in this series. After beating 46 all out in the first innings in Bengaluru and losing 54 runs for seven wickets in the second, the home side conceded a lead of 103 on the second day in Pune to put New Zealand in the lead.

With batting conditions likely to only get more difficult in Pune, it remains to be seen how India can stage a comeback.
