PMHS graduate Kate Douglass breaks 200m breaststroke world record at World Aquatics Swimming World Cup – Pelham Examiner

Pelham native Kate Douglass broke the world record in the short course 200-meter breaststroke at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Incheon, South Korea, on Thursday.

The PMHS graduate finished the race with a time of 2:14.16, breaking American swimmer Rebecca Soni’s previous record of 2:14.57 from the 2009 Duel in the Pool.

Short-distance races take place in 25-meter pools, while long-distance races, such as those in the Olympic Games, take place in 50-meter pools.

Douglass’ new world record comes nearly three months after her success at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won two gold medals in the women’s 200m breaststroke and women’s 4x100m medley relay, as well as two silver medals in the 200m IM The women’s freestyle relay and the women’s 4×100 meter race won.

Douglass is also the American record holder in the 50m freestyle and 200m breaststroke long course, as well as the 200m IM short course.
