The experienced criminal defense attorney calls Brad Simpson the main suspect

SAN ANTONIO – It has been three weeks since working mother of four and real estate agent Suzanne Simpson has had any contact with family or friends. Investigators searched several properties, some of which belong to the Simpsons, as well as a wooded area near the family home in Olmos Park and a landfill in southeast Bexar County. However, all search queries remained empty. Her husband, Brad Simpson, remains in jail on $3 million bond on two misdemeanor and two felony charges. His longtime business partner James Valle Cotter was also arrested and his bond is set at $500,000 on four felony charges, including tampering with or tampering with evidence. Police are still looking for Suzanne Simpson. Meanwhile, grief and frustration continue for her family, who are desperate for closure.

A veteran criminal defense attorney and legal analyst who says it’s still possible for someone to be convicted of murder in cases where no body has been found.

“The fact that there is no one at this point is not an impediment to prosecution,” said defense attorney Brian Wice.

Over the past 45 years, Wice has looked at the criminal justice system from all perspectives. He has worked on many high-profile cases, most recently as a special prosecutor in the recent trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Now Wice considers why investigators believe Brad Simpson is their prime suspect.

“Historically, most women or men who experience violence at the hands of someone are someone they generally know as their partner,” Wice says.

Simpson remains in prison on charges of assault and unlawful restraint. His original arrest warrant states that Simpson’s youngest child told a school official that her parents were “arguing.” …she told staff that her father had hit her mother in the face and possibly pushed her against a wall. “She told staff that her mother had a bruised elbow and that her father had taken her cell phone.” Wice isn’t surprised that Simpson remains silent.

“It is the state’s responsibility to present its case based on investigation, and it is not the defendant’s responsibility to help the state make that case for him,” Wice said.

Meanwhile, Suzanne’s family is praying for peace. During an interview over the weekend, her sister Teresa Clark told me that she believes her sister is gone.

“We just do our best every day and pray that she is found because at the end of the day we want closure so our families can move on,” Clark said.

Wice adds that Simpson had both opportunity and motive.

“He definitely had an opportunity, my goodness, he was married to this woman. Did he have a motive? I think that will develop in the coming months and weeks,” says Wice.
