“Hot Spot” police operation leads to felony arrest at Central Avenue Motel 6

A man was arrested Tuesday after Colonie police said they found him in possession of a loaded handgun that had previously been reported stolen.

Patrol officers were reportedly conducting “hot spot” policing at the Motel 6 at 1600 Central Avenue around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday when they said they observed an occupied vehicle driving without license plates or license plates. Officers spoke with the vehicle’s sole occupant, identified as Desmond D. Terry, according to a news release.

Police said a loaded handgun was found in Terry’s possession that had been reported stolen from Kissimmee, Florida, even though he did not have a permit.

Terry was taken into custody and charged with two felonies, authorities said. He was remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility pending a preliminary hearing.

“The Colonie Police Department would like to recognize the actions of our officers as they continue to keep our community safe by combating gun violence,” authorities said in a news release. “The brave men and women of the Colonie Police Department remain committed to protecting and serving the residents, visitors and businesses of the City of Colonie, and their actions have removed an illegal handgun from the streets of our city.” We would like to too commend the Motel 6 staff who have been great partners in reducing crime and assisting with investigations.”
