Vermont State Police are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found Friday at a residence in Newfane, authorities said in a news release.

Newfane is just over an hour northeast of Hoosick Falls in Windham County.

Police reportedly received a call just after 5 p.m. Friday from relatives who reported finding two family members dead at a home on South Wardsboro Road. First responders confirmed the deaths after arriving at the scene.

According to a press release, the initial investigation indicated that this was an isolated incident involving two people who knew each other.

Authorities said the crime scene on South Wardsboro Road has been secured and is being processed for evidence. The remains of those found dead will be taken to the Burlington Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies to confirm their identities and determine the cause and manner of death.
