Girls tennis: Minnewaska duo earns top-four finish in state – Alexandria Echo Press

MINNEAPOLIS – A pair of Minnewaska Lakers finished as one of the top doubles teams in the MSHSL Class A State Tournament at the Reed Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis Oct. 24-25, 2024.

Junior Alia Randt and senior Megan Thorfinnson competed as a duo in the tournament and finished 2-2 for fourth place.

Randt/Thorfinnson started the tournament strong with a 6-1, 6-1 win on Thursday morning over Sophia Nerison/Livia Tennessen. Randt/Thorfinnson then defeated Blake School’s Regan Brass/Louisa Cohen 7-5, 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Ally Mersman and Madison Ward of Maple River defeated Randt/Thorfinnson 7-5, 6-0 in the state semifinals Friday morning.

The Lake City duo Therese Bauer and Rylee Thieren defeated Randt/Thorfinnson 6-4, 7-6 (7) in the third-place match on Friday.

Maple River’s Macy Sohre/Kelsey Jaeger defeated teammates Mersman and Ward to win the MSHSL Class A dual state title.

Osakis’ Leah Maddock is finishing up another season at State University

Osaki junior Leah Maddock ended her junior season with a 1-1 finish at the MSHSL Class A Individual State Tournament.

Maddock defeated Saint James’ Keyana Haler 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday.

Maddock lost to Isla Dille of Litchfield 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the second round of the state tournament on Thursday.

“Leah had a great season, finishing the season 27-2 and reaching the state quarterfinals as a No. 5 seed,” said Osakis head coach Ryan Maddock. “Their only two losses were against Isla. Leah had a win over her earlier this year. Both Leah and Isla have improved greatly from last year and have become two of the best Class A players in the state. Both will return to their teams next year.”

Leah Maddock finished the season with a record of 27-2 and made it to the individual state tournament for the fourth time.

Chloe Alley of Minnehaha Academy defeated Fatemeh Vang of Blake School to win the Class A singles state title.
