Westbury
Arrest
The Nassau County Police Department’s Third Troop arrested Hempstead man Jashawn Ford, 20, in Westbury on Monday, October 14, at 2:22 p.m. for alleged weapons possession.

According to investigators, Bureau of Special Operations officers observed a man not wearing a seatbelt driving a black 2015 Nissan Altima eastbound on Old Country Road in Westbury.

Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and conducted a vehicle and traffic stop near Merchants Concourse and Taylor Avenue.

After an investigation, officers recovered a loaded Glock 19 handgun and an illegal amount of cannabis in the vehicle, police said.

When officers attempted to arrest the Ford, he fled on foot.

Ford was arrested in a nearby parking lot and an officer suffered injuries as they tried to take him into custody, police said. The injured officer was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Ford is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault, resisting arrest, unlawful possession of cannabis and multiple VTL violations.

Garden City
Grand theft

Garden City Police arrested 27-year-old Costica Alexandru of Queens for a suspected grand larceny that occurred in Garden City on July 18 at 4:20 p.m.

According to investigators, Alexandru entered the Gross Jewelers store at 840 Franklin Ave. and demanded to look at several Rolex watches. While the clerk was showing the merchandise with the display drawer open, he became distracted by the person as he removed a Rolex Platinum 40MM DD watch valued at $66,750, police said.

The perpetrator put the watch in his pocket and eventually left the store without paying for the goods, police said.

A thorough investigation was conducted and Alexandru was arrested without incident. According to police, Alexandru was in possession of three fake driving licenses.

Alexandru is charged with second-degree grand larceny and three counts of possession of a forged instrument.

Levittown
Arrest
The Nassau County Police Department’s Eighth Troop arrested a Levittown man for multiple incidents that occurred in Levittown between Friday, October 4th and Friday, October 11th.

According to investigators, Justin Sullivan, 26, stalked a 16-year-old female victim while she was driving a gray 2013 Nissan Rogue as she was on her way home from school on Wantagh Avenue near Old Jerusalem Avenue.

Sullivan drove past the victim several times on five different days and waved at her while laughing, police said.

Police said that on Thursday, October 10, Sullivan was observed driving his vehicle and parking it in front of the victim’s residence.

After an investigation, investigators arrested the defendant at his home without incident, police said.

Sullivan is charged with fourth-degree stalking.

Detectives with the Nassau County Police Department’s Eighth Squad arrested Levittown woman Marienny Yanez, 29, for an alleged assault that occurred in Levittown on Tuesday, October 22, at 9:20 p.m.

According to investigators, officers responded to a 911 call about an assault with a weapon. When officers arrived, they found blood on the floors of the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, police said.
No one was present at the crime scene. It was determined that the male victim, 29, was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

Officers responded to the hospital and learned the man had an argument with Yanez about ending their relationship, police said.

Yanez confronted the man with a knife in each hand and lunged at the victim with the knife in his right hand, police said.

The man raised his right arm to block the attack and suffered a laceration to his forearm. Yanez dropped both knives and accompanied the victim to the hospital, police said.

She was arrested by officers without incident.

Yanez is charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal coercion and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Roslyn Heights
Arrest

Malkit Singh, 35, for alleged grand theft

The Nassau County Police Department’s Sixth Troop arrested New Jersey man Malkit Singh, 35, on Wednesday, October 16, at 4:48 p.m. in Roslyn Heights for alleged grand larceny.

According to investigators, a 65-year-old woman received a call from Amazon about her iPad. The woman was directed to speak with a Federal Trade Commission agent to report fraud. After contacting the Federal Trade Commission, the woman was informed that she had outstanding warrants for her arrest and was directed to meet a federal agent at the corner of Power House Road and Roslyn Road, police said.

The woman was told to put $32,000 in a box and put it in the agent’s car when he arrived. The woman followed the instructions and realized the next morning that she may have been the victim of a scam, police said.

The following day, the woman reported the incident to the Sixth Precinct. While at the station, the woman was contacted again and told to meet at the same location with $40,000, police said.

Before that exchange took place, investigators arrested Singh without incident. The woman recognized Singh as the same man who had met her the day before, police said.
Singh is charged with third-degree grand larceny and third-degree attempted grand larceny.

Elmont
Serious car accident
The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Unit reported a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, October 13, in Elmont.

According to investigators, Patricio Rodriguez-Hayes, 48, of Queens Village, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Elmont Road.

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian, a sedan, left the scene heading west on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

Rodriguez-Hayes was taken to a local hospital where he was in critical condition. On Thursday, October 17, a hospital doctor pronounced him dead.

Bethpage
Arrest
The Nassau County Police Department’s Eighth Troop arrested 70-year-old Bethpage man Salvatore Conte for an alleged assault that occurred in Bethpage on Sunday, October 20, at 3:55 p.m.

According to investigators, officers responded to a vehicle accident at a residence on N. Windhorst Avenue around 3:20 p.m. A 16-year-old male was found to be driving a black 2024 BMW when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a house, police said.

There were also two other men in the vehicle, aged 16 and 17. According to police, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident.

The Bethpage Fire Department responded to the scene. While a 52-year-old firefighter was working in his official capacity at the damaged house, Conte became angry and began pushing him, resulting in an injury to his hip, police said.

The officers tried to arrest the defendant, but he resisted. The officers used their electronic control device (Taser) and the defendant was subdued and arrested, police said.

The injured firefighter was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Conte is charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.
