The latest UFC PPV lands in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. UFC 308 will take place on Yas Island, with a variety of interesting matches set to take place across the United Arab Emirates. The main event features one of the best matchups in the sport today as featherweight champion Ilia Topuria puts his title on the line against former champion and current BMF titleholder Max Holloway.

Topuria (15-0) ended Alexander Volkanovski’s five-year title reign earlier this year, becoming the only featherweight to beat Volkanovski. Topuria accomplished a feat that Holloway failed to do three times. Equipped with fearsome power and submission skills, Spain and Georgia’s first UFC champion is ready to build his legacy.

Holloway has been the 1B since his first loss to Volkanovski in 2019 at 145 pounds. Since then, “Blessed” has defeated everyone he has fought in the division except his former colleague. I’m on a three-fight winning streak, including this one Top candidate for Knockout of 2024 against Justin Gaethje in a BMF lightweight title fight.

Beyond the main event, there is a well-stocked undercard featuring some of the top talent from the region and this side of the world. Look no further than the co-main event, where a new title contender could emerge following the collision of Khamzat Chimaev and Robert Whittaker. Long considered a future star and champion, Chimaev is finally getting his chance to shine after several illnesses and injuries slowed his progress. Chimaev has burst onto the scene in 2020 with activity, including two stoppage wins in 10 days. However, he has only fought three times since April 2022. With Whittaker he meets a former champion who continues to do his business like a craftsman. Whittaker is 3-1 since losing his rematch with Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title in 2022.

Additionally, another future title contender could capture the light heavyweight crown when Magomed Ankalaev takes on Aleksandar Rakic. Ankalaev has been at the top of the rankings at 205 pounds for some time, but UFC CEO Dana White has not given him a second chance to fight for the belt after an unsavory performance against Jan Blachowicz in 2022 resulted in a draw. Ankalaev will need to impress against a strong opponent with tremendous power on Saturday to potentially secure a shot against Alex Pereira in 2025.
