Follow live coverage as Brentford take on Ipswich Town in the Premier League today. Another top-flight season is covered in detail here at The Independent as reigning champions Manchester City aim to achieve an unprecedented five titles in a row by the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola’s side, but just as intriguing will be the race for the Champions League places, with more teams than ever hoping for places in the top four. Chelsea continue to spend heavily, Manchester United’s recent rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle are expected to improve this year – yet it was Aston Villa that secured fourth place last season.

Meanwhile, Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town have returned to the elite after being promoted last year, and each of them will be hoping they can stay for longer than just a year. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Brentford v Ipswich Town

It’s half time here at the Gtech Community Stadium and what started as a very quiet game has turned into a goal fest in the last 15 minutes of half time! Neither team managed a significant attack in the first 20 minutes, but in the 28th minute Szmodics gave the away team the lead after a nice touch from Hirst managed to direct a shot into the bottom right corner of Flekken’s goal. Just three minutes later, the provider of the first goal, Hirst, doubled Ipswich’s lead on his first Premier League appearance with a calm ball over Flekken. That made it 2-0 and it looked like we would go into the break two goals ahead of Ipswich. Wissa had other ideas and in the 44th minute Janelt put the ball in his square after great work from Lewis-Potter and Wissa hit the ball home with ease. That made it 2-1, but the goals weren’t scored yet! Wissa broke through Ipswich Town’s defensive line and fired a shot past Muric. The goalkeeper got some of the shot and Clarke then slid in to block the shot. Unfortunately he couldn’t keep the ball out and it was ruled an own goal for the Ipswich man. That made it 2-2 and that was the score at halftime.
